A message from our outgoing co-chair Jake Furby.
As many of you know, the York LGBT Forum has been a massive part of my life for a long time. I’ve seen us grow from a small group of passionate people into a charity that truly fights for an inclusive, intersectional York. It’s been a journey I’m incredibly proud of.
But for a community to thrive, it needs to grow—and that means bringing in fresh energy and new voices to lead the way.
We are looking for a new several Trustees to help lead us through the next three years and beyond. Personally, I’m really hoping to find someone who can bring strong HR or management skills to the table to help us look after the amazing people who make our work possible.
If you care about our community as much as I do, and you have the skills to help lead our strategy and governance, please consider applying. We especially want to hear from women, trans people, and those from minoritised backgrounds, in particular people of colour —your voices are essential to our future.
It’s time for me to help pass the baton. If you’re ready to step up and help shape what’s next for LGBTQ+ York, I’d love to have a chat with you. I shall be official stepping down in November 2026 but will be slowing phasing out.
With love and pride,
Jake Furby
About the role
You’ll find full details of the role and what it involves in the Trustee Role Description.
You’ll need to be able to attend our monthly trustee board meetings wherever possible. These 2-hour meetings are held virtually over Zoom, and take place in the evening mid-week. You’ll also be required to attend our annual AGM in November.
Trustee positions are unpaid, but we don’t expect trustees to be out of pocket for carrying out their role, so expenses are paid.
